For Chocolate Lovers ONLY!

I've been wanting to make an "adult cake" for a while. I really wanted to do something other than buttercream frosting. So since today is my Mom's birthday, I offered to make her a cake.

I've been wanting to do this for so long! I made ganache!!!
(All you do is take chocolate and melt it with really hot heavy whipping cream, mix it up really good, and let it cool a bit, then pour it on!)

THEN I marbled some white and semi-sweet chocolate and cut it into some fun shapes and stuck them in the ganache.

Then I sprinkled on chopped up marbled chocolate.
Because I can never have enough chocolate.

So there you have it. A triple chocolate cake with a fudgy filling, covered with chocolate ganache, then decorated with CHOCOLATE! I am SUPER excited to get to eat my creation tonight at my Mom's birthday party!!!!!

Soccer Party #2

I just did my second soccer themed order. This time I decorated 72, yes- that's 6 dozen- cupcakes!!! I decorated about 4 dozen of them to look like grass and then the rest of them to look like soccer balls so they could be arranged like balls sitting in a field of grass.

This birthday party was for Caden, a neighbor boy turning 9. So I made him his own personal soccer ball cake. He looked pretty excited when he saw it and that made me super happy! :)

That was a lot of cupcakes!

I've got at least 4 tentative cakes for September and I'm so excited! Especially since they're all going to be so different. The cakes might include a bike theme, Dora, and a tractor cake. I can't wait to start designing them!

Soccer Cake

Seth is turning 4 and loves soccer. So I made him a soccer ball cake on a field of grass.
Today was my first time making grass. It turned out to be super easy... but really time consuming!

I baked the ball in a Pyrex bowl to make it round. I turned the temp down to 325 and checked it every 5-10 minutes to make sure it didn't burn. I was worried that it might not come out of the bowl very well, but I greased and floured it and it came out perfect!

I'm super excited to see Seth's face when he see's his cake at his birthday party tomorrow!
Happy 4th Birthday, Seth!!!

Ladybug Party

I decided it was about time to start my cake blog. I'm a little rusty on my cake decorating skills since I haven't made anything in a while. It was so fun to get to decorate again! This week's cake was for cute little Ella's first birthday. The theme was ladybugs everything. So I did just that.

I made 3 dozen cute little ladybug cupcakes made out of red velvet cake with chocolate chips mixed in. I used white chocolate chips upside down for the eyes and piped a little black dot in the center. Then I used chocolate chips for the ladybug's dots. That made it super easy! It was a little crazy having all those ladybugs sitting on my counter staring at me the whole time. I will admit, I did find the idea online, but they still turned out super cute!

Then I made Ella a 6" round smash cake. This one I designed all on my own. My main idea was to have the big ladybug's trail spell out her name. Then I added all the little ladybugs on the leaves. Some of them were only 1/8" big. I've never done anything so tiny and intricate.

All and all I think the cake and cupcakes turned out cute. I know they are FAR from perfect, but I had tons of fun making them.
Happy 1st Birthday, Ella!

First Fondant Cakes

These are my very first fondant cakes I made a while back.

I tried to make one more elegant and wedding-like

And the other one I tried to make fun and modern.
Thanks to my good friend, Jess, for taking these awesome photos!

Past Cakes

Here's a few of my past cakes.
This tractor one I made for Brady clear back in 2005. The picture I took was pretty awful, but I loved how the cake turned out.

This was Ayda's first birthday cake-2007- it was pretty simple.

Ayda's 2nd birthday cake- 2008- She was OBSESSED with M&M's so I made her an M&M cake. Just 9 days before her birthday, I had a c-section when Toren was born. So I didn't really feel like making a cake that day....
